Jerusalem, 13 August, 2018 (TPS) -- Israel’s Health Ministry issued a health warning Monday and several streams in the Golan Heights were closed after 27 cases of Leptospirosis were reported in recent days. Hundreds of people were expected to be checked for exposure to the water-borne disease as the ministry called for anyone who has a febrile illness with a temperature of over 38 Celsius and who has visited rivers and streams in the southern Golan Heights since July 1 to inform their family physician.  Leptospirosis is transmitted by rodent urine and can cause symptoms such as headaches muscle pains, and fevers and in severe cases can lead to kidney failure or pulmonary hemorrhage.
