Jerusalem, 25 March, 2024 (TPS-IL) -- Megillat Esther, “The Scroll of Esther,” is seen at an IDF checkpoint in northern Samaria during the Jewish holiday of Purim.

Jews around the world attend readings of the scroll on Purim, which tells the story of how the Jews in ancient Persia defeated the evil Haman who wanted to wipe out all of the Jews in the world. It must be read from parchment inscribed in accordance with Jewish Law.

Hearing the Megillah reading is such an important one of the many Jewish commandments that provisions are made to ensure soldiers serving in remote areas are able to hear it.
