Watch: Israeli Commandos Raid Hezbollah Compound
Jerusalem, 3 November, 2024 (TPS) -- The Israel Defense Forces released footage of commandos raiding a Hezbollah compound in southern Lebanon on Sunday.
According to the military, Hezbollah intended to use the compound to plan and carry out infiltration attacks against Israel.
Based on intelligence, naval commandos from the Shayetet 13 Unit and combat engineers in the Yahalom Unit working with infantry support, eliminated a Hezbollah squad in an underground area of the compound.
Israeli forces destroyed rocket launchers, high-powered explosives ready to be activated, surface-to-air missiles, anti-tank missiles, mortar shells, AK-47 rifles, and a launcher concealed in a mountain on a several-meter-long track aimed directly at civilian communities in northern Israel.
Soldiers also uncovered underground hideouts equipped with well-stocked weapons pits, tents, medical supplies and other equipment for a prolonged stay.
Earlier on Sunday, troops in the southern Lebanese village of Kfar Kila found a weapons warehouse inside a children’s bedroom and other equipment around the house which served as a military warehouse, the Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday.
After the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, Hezbollah began firing rockets and launching drones at northern Israel communities daily. More than 68,000 residents of northern Israel are displaced from their homes. Hezbollah leaders have repeatedly said they would continue the attacks to prevent Israelis from returning to their homes.
According to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War, the terror group is forbidden from operating in southern Lebanon.
At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 97 remaining hostages, more than 30 have been declared dead. Hamas has also been holding captive two Israeli civilians since 2014 and 2015, and the bodies of two soldiers killed in 2014.
