Bulgarian Embassy Hosts Martenitsa Workshop in Bat Yam

Jerusalem, 6 March, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- (BTA) The Bulgarian Embassy in Tel Aviv held a workshop on making martenitsa for the second year in a row. This year’s edition was attended by “great interest from numerous representatives of the Bulgarian community and Israeli friends of Bulgaria,” the embassy announced on its Facebook page.

Young and old in the city of Bat Yam had the pleasure, on the eve of the holiday, of experiencing the thousand-year-old Bulgarian tradition of Baba Marta and everyone taking home handmade martenitsa. Martenitsa are small adornments made of red and white yarn tassels and worn on Baba Marta Day, a Bulgarian holiday that celebrates the approaching spring.

The embassy expressed its gratitude to the Municipality of Bat Yam for the provided hall and extended “warm thanks” to all those present and to the special animator of the event, Tanya Milcheva.

The Bulgarian diplomatic mission in Israel and the organizations of Bulgarian Jews in the country also invited the public to mark the Day of the Rescue of Bulgarian Jews during World War II on March 10 at Tel Aviv’s beachfront Charles Clore Park.
