Jerusalem, 1 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) --

Israeli police have arrested a 19-year-old resident of Issawiya in East Jerusalem on suspicion of inciting terrorism and involvement in arson. The suspect was detained following his online posts calling for violence and the destruction of Israel. The posts, which were shared on social media, included inflammatory rhetoric, urging for fires to spread and for the destruction of Israeli territories.

“Make your wind strong, make their bodies dust, God, you are greater than them. They destroyed the Muslim nations,”  the suspect wrote in one post.

He also shared videos of fires across Israel with a caption calling for divine wrath against Israel. Another post depicted a fire near the “Yad La-Shiryon” a military museum located in Latrun and dedicated to the Israel Defense Forces and specifically to the Armored Corps, alongside a message: “They burned Gaza—may God protect it. Israel is burning—God, rise up for us!”

Following the identification of the suspect, police from the Shalem station, together with Border Police forces, arrested him at his home. He was brought to a Jerusalem court where his detention was extended.

In a separate incident, another resident of East Jerusalem was arrested on Wednesday for setting fire to an open field in southern Jerusalem. He was brought to court, where his detention was extended until May 4, 2025, and his investigation continues.

Meanwhile, police and Border Police forces, alongside fire-fighting and emergency teams, continue efforts to ensure the safe return of residents evacuated due to the fires.
