Jerusalem, 27 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Lachin (AZERTAC) – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the “Ashaghi Malibeyli” and “Mirik” hydroelectric power stations (HPS) of “AzerEnergy” Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) in Lachin on Tuesday.

AZERTAC reports that Baba Rzayev, Chairman of AzerEnergy OJSC, first informed the head of state about hydro-green energy projects in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions.

It was noted that as a result of the commissioning of 32 stations commissioned to date and 6 stations already ready for operation, the number of hydroelectric power stations has been increased to 38, and their capacity has been increased to 307 MW. Up to 200 million cubic meters of natural gas are saved annually due to the green energy produced at the created hydroelectric power stations, and up to 400 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions are prevented from being released into the atmosphere.

Aliyev was informed about the “Lower Malibeyli” and “Mirik” hydroelectric power stations. Both stations were built on the section of the Zabukh River, a right tributary of the Hakari River, passing through the villages of Malibeyli and Mirik in the Lachin district. The most modern equipment has been installed at the 3.1 MW “Lower Malibeyli” and 3.5 MW “Mirik” hydroelectric power stations, and optical cable lines have been laid. Thus, the stations have been integrated into the centralized SCADA system of the country’s energy system.

The two stations are expected to produce 20 million kilowatt-hours of green energy per year, which in turn will create conditions for saving 4.3 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevent the emission of 8 thousand tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year. Residents of the Lachin district will work at the newly commissioned stations.
