Israel Strikes Iran’s State Broadcaster HQ in Tehran, Halting Live Broadcast
Jerusalem, 16 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- The Israeli military confirmed it carried out an airstrike Monday on the headquarters of Iran’s state broadcaster in Tehran on Monday, forcing a presenter off the air during a live broadcast. Israel accused the Islamic Republic of using the building for military purposes under the guise of civilian operations.
“This center was used by the armed forces to advance military operations under civilian cover, using its own means and assets,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.
The target was the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN), part of the state-run IRIB, which the IDF described as a “propaganda and incitement mouthpiece.” Defense Minister Israel Katz declared earlier in the day that it was “on its way to disappearing.”
The presenter was seen fleeing her table as a loud explosion rocked the studio.
To reduce civilian harm, the IDF said it issued warnings before the strike, including phone calls and an evacuation alert for much of eastern Tehran, where the building is located.
IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Col. Avichay Adraee posted a Persian-language warning on social media hours earlier, urging residents of Tehran’s third district to evacuate. The neighborhood is a wealthy area in eastern Tehran that houses numerous government institutions.
Israel launched preemptive strikes against Iranian nuclear sites on Friday, citing intelligence that Tehran had reached “a point of no return” in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. According to Israeli defense officials, Iran has developed the capacity to rapidly enrich uranium and assemble nuclear bombs, with sufficient fissile material for up to 15 weapons.
Israeli intelligence also exposed a covert program to complete all components of a nuclear device. The strikes mark a dramatic escalation in what officials describe as a broader Iranian strategy combining nuclear development, missile proliferation, and proxy warfare aimed at Israel’s destruction.
