Ukraine to Buy Gas From Azerbaijan for First Time
Jerusalem, 28 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Kiev (AZERTAC) – Ukraine’s Naftogaz Ukraine National Joint Stock Company has signed the first gas purchase and sale agreement with Azerbaijan’s SOCAR.
AZERTAC reports this concerning the press service of the Naftogaz Ukraine National Joint Stock Company.
According to the information, for the first time, a test gas supply is being carried out via the Trans-Balkan corridor along the Bulgaria-Romania-Ukraine border route.
“This is a small but strategically important step that paves the way for long-term cooperation. It is also another example of diversifying supply sources and strengthening Ukraine’s energy security,” said Sergey Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Naftogaz.
Ukraine has reduced gas production due to Russia’s shelling of its gas infrastructure. This year, Ukraine will be forced to import large volumes of gas from Europe.
Ukraine’s then-Energy Minister German Galushenko said in June that the minimum volume of imported gas to be injected into Ukraine’s storage facilities is 4.6 billion cubic meters.
As of June, 2.9 billion cubic meters of “clearly imported gas to be injected into storage facilities” had been signed. These contracts are being financially confirmed.
