Silistra Landfill Fire Under Control; Environmental Impact Still Unclear

Jerusalem, 3 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Silistra (BTA) – A large fire was brought under control at the Regional Solid Waste Landfill near the northeastern Bulgarian town of Silistra on Sunday morning, Silistra Mayor Alexander Sabanov reported. The fire broke out in the second cell of the facility on Saturday night.

The firefighting efforts included teams from Silistra, Tutrakan, and Dulovo. Heavy construction equipment was also mobilized.

No injuries have been reported. The causes of the fire are being investigated. Official information from the Ruse Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water regarding the extent of air pollution is expected.

The landfill is located five kilometres from Silistra. It is a municipal enterprise that collects and disposes of waste, as well as stores construction waste and excavated soil.
