Bulgarian Lawmakers to Investigate Soros Foundations’ Activities
Jerusalem, 5 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) The Bulgarian Parliament decided to establish a temporary committee to establish facts and circumstances regarding the activities of George and Alexander Soros and their foundations in Bulgaria, financing Bulgarian individuals and legal entities and non-governmental organizations, as well as to establish their connections with political parties, magistrates, educational institutions, media, business structures and state authorities.
The draft resolution was submitted by the parliamentary group “DPS – New Beginning.”
Voting for the probe were 111 deputies from the Vazrazhdane, DPS-New Beginning, BSP-United Left, and other parties. Twenty-seven deputies voted against the inquiry while 34 abstained.
The commission consists of 17 members of parliament, of which five are from GERB-SDF, three from PP-DB, two each from Vazrazhdane and DPS-New Beginning, as well as one representative each from BSP-United Left, Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, ITN, Morality, Unity, Honor and Grandeur.
The commission will work for three months, after which it will issue a report. Its task is to establish the facts since April.
Soros’s foundations affect the so-called transition and the commission will examine their “achievements” in controlling the state, establishing their unregulated influence in all spheres of political life – the executive, judicial, parties, presidential power for a certain period, explained Yordan Tsonev, one of the project’s sponsors.
According to Tsonev, the influence that the Open Society network has on political and public life is even more dangerous. Many destinies were changed, personalities of character and professionals were slandered in the course of this network’s activities, but the greatest harm was on public life, on academic circles, where many qualified, experienced teachers suffered under this network, Tsonev said.
“Our demand is to clear the path of political and public life from such networks of influence that deform the entire public environment in the country,” Tsonev said.
According to Stanislav Anastasov (DPS-New Beginning), Soros’ foundations are actually founded around one person, they have no political affiliation, their goal is to create “hollow” political projects, influence. The work on Soros is large and important enough to mix it with the others, Anastasov said.
