Jerusalem, 11 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (Azertac) – Azerbaijan’s cotton harvest has entered its final stage and as of December 11, 354,906 tons of raw cotton in conditioned weight have been harvested from 100,468.1 hectares of sown areas.

The Public Relations and Information Department of the Ministry of Agriculture told AZERTAC that, according to operational information, the average cotton yield is 35.33 centners/ha. This is the highest average yield recorded in Azerbaijan since 2000. Until now, the highest cotton yield was recorded in 2020 – 33.6 centners/ha.

Cotton cultivation in Azerbaijan is carried out on the basis of contracts concluded between farmers who are landowners and cotton procurement and processing companies. According to the signed contract, the company provides the farmer with the necessary seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, carries out the supply of equipment related to land preparation for sowing, provision of agrotechnical services and harvesting, allocates an agronomist to provide the farmer with necessary advice during the vegetation period of the plant, and provides an advance to cover the costs of sowing.

In return, the farmer is obliged to grow the crop and deliver it to the company at the price specified in the contract. Contract farming, as a method that eliminates the costs of sowing and the problem of selling crops, has been successfully applied in Azerbaijan for many years.

In the 2025 economic year, cotton was sown in 16 regions of the republic. Approximately 86 percent of the crops fall on nine regions specializing in cotton growing (Aghjabedi, Beylagan, Barda, Bilasuvar, Imishli, Neftchala, Saatli, Sabirabad, Salyan). The total area of cotton plantations in these regions is about 86 thousand hectares. This year, the largest amount of cotton was planted in the Saatli (12 thousand 634.1 ha), Agjabedi (11 thousand 821.7 ha) and Sabirabad (11 thousand 86.2 ha) regions.

To date, the highest cotton productivity is in Beylagan district. The average productivity in this district is 41.23 centners/ha. As of December 11, 36,688.9 tons of cotton were harvested from 8,898.3 hectares of sown areas in the district and delivered to delivery points.

The next places in terms of average productivity are occupied by Neftchala (39.65 centners/ha), Bilasuvar (39.49 centners/ha), Tartar (37.50 centners/ha), Barda (35.90 centners/ha) and Saatli (35.78 centners/ha) regions. The average cotton productivity in these regions is higher than the national average.

Cotton cultivation is subsidized by the state.
