Wind and Solar Power Boost Azerbaijan’s Electricity Output by 27%

Jerusalem, 14 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – In 2025, the total electricity production in Azerbaijan increased by 262.3 million kWh (0.9%) to reach 28,657.5 million kWh, the Ministry of Energy told AZERTAC.

During this period, electricity generation at thermal power plants (TPPs) amounted to 24,823.4 million kWh (1.14 percent increase), at hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) to 2,842.5 million kWh, and from other sources to 991.6 million kWh (18 percent increase). In particular, 169.7 million kWh of electricity was generated at wind power plants (WPPs), 599.8 million kWh at solar power plants (SPPs), and 222.1 million kWh (4.47 percent decrease) at the solid household waste incineration plant.

Compared to 2024, electricity generation from wind and solar power plants increased 162.3 million kWh, or 26.7 percent, reaching 769.5 million kWh.

In 2025, Azerenerji OJSC generated 25,591.8 million kWh of electricity (including 22,703.6 million kWh at TPPs, 2,827.1 million kWh at HPPs, and 61.1 million kWh at SPPs), Azerishig OJSC generated 27 million kWh at WPPs, and independent power producers generated 3,38.7 million kWh.
