Bulgarian President to Appoint Caretaker Prime Minister
Jerusalem, 26 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova will meet with Parliament Chair Raya Nazaryan on Tuesday, the President’s Press Secretariat said on Monday. The meeting is being held in implementation of Article 99(5) of the Constitution, in connection with the procedure for appointing a caretaker prime minister from among the persons designated in the Basic Law.
The pool of potential caretaker prime ministers from which the President may choose is limited to the Chairperson of the National Assembly, the Governor or Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, the President or a Vice-President of the National Audit Office, and the National Ombudsman or a Deputy Ombudsman.
