Bulgaria Has New Junior Grand Slam Champion: Dimitar Kisimov Wins Australian Open Doubles Title
Jerusalem, 1 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- (BTA) – Bulgaria’s Dimitar Kisimov triumphed with the junior doubles title at the Australian Open – the first Grand Slam tournament of the season. Thus, another Bulgarian name shone on the biggest stage in world tennis.
The 17-year-old Bulgarian talent and his partner Connor Doig (Republic of South Africa) won the trophy after defeating the hosts Imerali Ibrahimi and Cooper Coase in the final with 6:3, 6:4. Thus, Bulgaria now has a champion in its third consecutive Grand Slam tournament, after Ivan Ivanov’s titles last year at Wimbledon and the US Open.
With this success, Dimitar Kisimov brought Bulgaria a total of 11 Grand Slam titles. He joins names such as Manuela Maleeva, Magdalena Maleeva, Cecil Karatancheva, Grigor Dimitrov, Adrian Andreev and Ivan Ivanov. This was also Kisimov’s debut in a junior Grand Slam tournament.
