Bulgarian Tax Inspectors Impose Over €54,000 in Fines for Euro-Related Violations

Jerusalem, 9 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Varna (BTA) – Since the beginning of this year, Bulgarian inspectors from the territorial directorate of the National Revenue Agency in Varna, which also covers the districts of Shumen, Targovishte, Silistra, Dobrich, Ruse and Razgrad, have imposed fines of over 54,300 euros ($64,600) for violations related to the introduction of the euro as national currency. This was announced today by the press service of the Regional Administration, citing data from the activities of the Coordination Center in the seaside city.

Since the introduction of the euro, the number of signals received by the NRA Directorate has already reached 480. The inspections completed are 770, and the acts drawn up – 103. In the last week, tax officials have drawn up 3 penal decrees, bringing their total number since the beginning of the year to 18.

From February 2-6, a report was filed with the police about an attempt to use a counterfeit banknote with a denomination of 500 euros. It is a prop type, with an inscription, and was caught in the retail network.

For the same period, the Consumer Protection Commission in Varna received 123 complaints and signals, of which 20 were determined to be unfounded. Ninety-two sites were inspected during the week.

The Regional Directorate of Food Safety and the Varna Customs have not received any reports of violations regarding the introduction of the euro. The same is true for the municipal administrations in the region.
