Bulgaria Steps Up Security at Israel-Linked Locations

Jerusalem, 2 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – “We are actively coordinating with other institutions, and police presence has been increased at sites linked to Israeli and American interests,” said the Director of the Sofia Directorate of Interior, Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, speaking to journalists on Monday in connection with the situation in the Middle East.

He added that, at present, all precautionary measures have been taken. Police presence has also been stepped up around airports.

Over the weekend, the Bulgarian caretaker government said it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and is prepared to evacuate Bulgarian citizens in the region. A meeting of the Security Council was held at the Council of Ministers on Saturday.

Following the meeting, government members stated that Bulgaria is not a direct target for Iran and that there is no immediate military threat to the country.
