Heavy Rain Hits Southern Bulgaria, Up to 40 Liters per Square Meter
Jerusalem, 3 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Haskovo (BTA) – Nearly 40 liters per square meter of rain fell in places in Bulgaria’s Haskovo region over the past 24 hours, the Hydrometeorological Observatory in Haskovo told BTA. The highest value was registered in the village of Dolno Cherkovishte, Stambolovo municipality – 39.2 liters per square meter. The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology had announced an orange warning code for yesterday.
In the regional center – Haskovo, the rain reached 16.1 liters per square meter, and in the second largest city in the region – Dimitrovgrad – 14.1 liters. The least precipitation was in Lyubimets – 13.6 liters per square meter.
The previous potentially dangerous rainfall situation in the region was on February 20 , when amounts of up to 50 liters per square meter created problems in several municipalities in the area.
