Baku Hit by Heavy Rains, Flooding Disrupts City Services
Jerusalem, 6 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – Since April 4, intensive rainy weather conditions have continued throughout the country. According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, 90 millimeters of precipitation was recorded in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula on April 5-6, which is 390 percent of the monthly norm. The rains caused a number of complications.
The Baku City Executive Power (BCE) told AZERTAC that these days the BCE and its subordinate structures, heads of regional executive powers and their staffs are operating in an enhanced working mode.
Flooding is also observed in areas of settlements around Baku where there is no sewage system. In those areas, city utility employees are using special vehicles to pump rainwater and, if necessary, evacuate people. Water pumps, special technical devices, and heavy machinery have been deployed to the areas.
The rain also caused damage to the environment. Thus, from the evening of April 5 to the morning of April 6, as a result of the wind accompanied by intense rain, cases of tree falling were observed. In this regard, the operational teams of the Baku City Greening Economy Union are providing uninterrupted service. The Union’s employees came to the areas where the call was made, ensured the removal of fallen trees, and took necessary measures.
A monitoring group of the BİH is working in the areas related to the situation. They identify areas where water is accumulating, problematic addresses, and provide information to the relevant agencies.
Thus, all responsible agencies of Baku are working in a coordinated manner to eliminate the consequences caused by the intense rainfall.
