Jerusalem, 9 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – According to information received from the “Icherisheher” State Historical and Architectural Reserve Department, erosion was observed in a small area of the historical Castle walls at the intersection of towers 13-14 on Kichik Gala Street.

The medieval fortress and surrounding walls were added to UNESCO’s World’s Heritage List in 2000.

The Reserve Administration told AZERTAC that, according to the initial opinion of experts, the main cause of the erosion is humidity and natural erosion processes resulting from heavy rain in recent days.

From the moment the incident occurred, the Department immediately took operational measures, took full control of the area in question, and took necessary preventive steps for the safety of citizens. Currently, the necessary work has been started to eliminate the situation in that part of the historical monument.
