Bulgarian Specialists Remove and Detonate Unexploded Munition Found During Excavation

Jerusalem, 19 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – The special team from Unexploded Ordnance Disposal Battalion of the Force Protection Battalion, part of the Second Mechanized Brigade in Stara Zagora, reconnoitered, transported and destroyed a heavily corroded high-explosive 82 mm mine without a fuse. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Defense.

The announcement added that the ammunition was discovered during excavation activities north of the town of Kazanluk in central Bulgaria.

Under the leadership of Lieutenant Stoyan Stoyanov and in compliance with safety measures, the ammunition was destroyed at the “Lyuljak” training center.

The servicemen acted on the orders of the Chief of Defense, Admiral Emil Eftimov, and on the orders of the Commander of the Land Forces, Major General Deyan Deshkov.

BTA recalls that in March, military personnel destroyed an unexploded ordnance discovered in Kazanluk.
