Bulgarian Judokas Secure Gold and Bronze at European Cup

Jerusalem, 1 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sarajevo (BTA) – Bulgarian judo wrestlers earned one gold and one bronze medals at the Sarajevo Senior European Cup 2026, which was held in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina between May 30 and 31, the Bulgarian Judo Federation said.

Lyuboslav Grigorov claimed first place in the 60 kg category after three victories. In his opening bout, he overcame the Netherlands’ Kayra Uyar after three penalties, then defeated Janson Wong, also of the Netherlands. In the final, he prevailed over Turkey’s Emirhan Karahan, again after three penalties, with the match decided in golden score after 7:47 minutes. For Grigorov, this is his first gold medal at a competition of this level.

In the same weight category, Ivan Simeonov won the bronze. In the contest for third place, the Bulgarian defeated Hungary’s Adam Vikol. Earlier in the tournament, he claimed one win, and incurred one loss to finalist Karahan.

In the 73 kg category, Bulgaria’s Denislav Ivanov finished seventh. A total of 249 entrants from 21 countries took part in the tournament.
