Sofia University Ranks in Top 5.2% of Universities Worldwide
Jerusalem, 3 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski ranks among the top 5.2% of 21,291 higher education institutions worldwide in the Global 2000 ranking for 2026, the university said on its website on Tuesday. The ranking is based on results published by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), a consulting organization that produces one of the world’s largest academic university rankings.
According to Sofia University, CWUR assesses performance across the four key pillars of its methodology – education, graduate employability, faculty quality and research – without relying on surveys or data submitted by universities themselves. This year, the ranking evaluated 21,291 universities worldwide based on their academic performance.
CWUR’s methodology uses seven objective, outcome-based indicators grouped into four areas: education, measured by the academic success of alumni relative to the size of the institution; employability, based on graduates’ professional achievements relative to university size; faculty quality, measured by the number of faculty members who have received major academic distinctions; and research performance, assessed through the total number of research papers, publications in leading journals, influence measured by publications in highly influential journals, and citations of highly cited research papers.
The Center for World University Rankings provides advisory, strategic analysis and consulting services to governments and universities aimed at improving educational and research outcomes, the university said.
