Jerusalem, 17 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – Azerbaijan has officially joined the international STEM Racing program supported by Formula 1.

AZERTAC reports that the project, implemented by the Baku City Ring Operating Company in the country, serves to promote engineering education and equip young people with the knowledge and skills necessary for a future career in the field of high technologies.

Thus, the opening of a special training center for the preparation of participants – STEM Racing Hub – took place within the framework of the program. The new center was established for teams to carry out practical activities in the design, production and improvement of racing models.

Speaking at the project presentation ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov emphasized the importance of the initiative: “It is gratifying that our country has become part of this global platform. The STEM Racing program not only provides schoolchildren with technical knowledge, but also creates conditions for the development of important skills such as teamwork, leadership, and project management. Many of the program participants later study engineering, work in leading technology companies, and even build careers in Formula 1. I believe that the participation of our team in the world final will be a valuable experience for our country and will inspire thousands of young people.”

The Caspian Apex team, created within the framework of the program, will represent Azerbaijan in the world finals for the first time. The competition will be held in Singapore (Sentosa Island) from October 3 to 8, 2026, and will bring together the strongest young engineering teams from different countries of the world.

Participants in the STEM Racing program operate in accordance with the working principles of Formula 1 teams. Each participant is responsible for a specific direction. Schoolchildren design a racing model using engineering programs, conduct aerodynamic calculations, manufacture parts using 3D printers, carry out tests, and also work in marketing, working with partners, and preparing presentations.

The program also plans to hold the first national STEM Racing championship in Azerbaijan in 2027. The winner of the championship will earn the right to represent the country in the world final.
