Sanan Sjugirov Wins Lankaran Chess Open in Baku
Jerusalem, 5 July, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – The “Lankaran Open 2026” international chess festival has concluded.
AZERTAC reports that the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Vice-President of FIDE Mahir Mammadov and other officials who attended the closing ceremony congratulated the winners and wished them success in the next competitions.
Hungarian representative Sanan Sjugirov, who scored seven points in the A tournament of the nine-round competition, surpassed all his rivals and won the title of the winner of the “Lankaran Open 2026”. Indian chess player Mayank Chakraborty, who had the same number of points, took second place. Azerbaijani chess player Shiroglan Talibov, who had 6.5 points, settled for third place.
Cera Dagariya (India) won the award as the best female participant in Group A.
Ismayil Mammadli won tournament B. Vusal Ahmadov and Nihad Eynullayev shared 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
Rapid and blitz competitions were also held as part of the festival. Mayank Chakraborty (India) won the rapid tournament, while Ramtin Kakavand (Iran) won the blitz tournament.
The “Lankaran Open 2026” is the third tournament of the “Azerbaijan Chess Tour” project, jointly organized by the Chess Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The next competition of the project will be in Shamakhi.
