Bulgaria Seizes Nearly Three Tons of Undocumented Animal Products at Turkish Border
Jerusalem, 6 July, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – Inspectors from the Border Control Directorate of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) have seized nearly three tons of animal products at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint on the Bulgarian-Turkish border. The inspection was carried out jointly with officers from the Customs Agency, the BFSA said on Monday.
During an inspection of a bus with Turkish registration entering Bulgaria, inspectors found 1,582 kg of sheep fat and 605 kg of meat products without documents certifying their origin. In separate inspections of another bus and a van with Turkish registration, inspectors discovered an additional 300 kg and 330 kg of sheep fat without the required accompanying documentation.
The goods were seized and are to be destroyed.
The BFSA emphasized that its inspections at border checkpoints are ongoing and are intended to protect consumers by preventing non-compliant and potentially hazardous food and feed products from entering the territory of the European Union.
