Second-Half Surge Lifts Azerbaijan U-18 Team to Historic European Championship Victory

Jerusalem, 26 July, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – The Azerbaijani national under-18 boys’ basketball team won its first group victory in Division B of the European Championship held in Rijeka and Opatija, Croatia.

AZERTAC reports that the national team faced the Ukrainian team in the second round.

The team, which lost the first half of the match, made a determined comeback in the second half and enjoyed a 77:68 victory.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game was Emanuel Agbason of the Azerbaijani national team. He played a key role in his team’s victory with 20 points and 17 rebounds in the match. This result went down in history as the first group victory for the Azerbaijani U-18 national team in Division B of the European Championship.

The national team will play its next match in the group stage against Iceland on July 26.
