Five Medals and Counting: Azerbaijani Boxers Set New European Championships Record

Jerusalem, 24 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – The Azerbaijani national men’s boxing team has set a new record for the number of medals at the European Championships.

The Azerbaijan Boxing Federation told AZERTAC that the team achieved this achievement at a competition held in the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia.

Boxer Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kilograms) secured his 5th medal by qualifying for the semifinals of the European Championship while the national team achieved a historic first. Until now, Azerbaijani athletes have won a maximum of four awards at a time in similar competitions.Securing five medals is a new record in the European Championships.

In the national team, Subhan Mamedov (50 kilograms) and Nabi Isgandarov (70 kilograms) qualified for the finals, while Amin Mammadzadeh (55 kilograms) qualified for the semifinals. Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kilograms) claimed the bronze medal.

The championship concludes on September 25.
