Bulgaria’s Industrial Producer Price Inflation Accelerates to 17.4%

Jerusalem, 30 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – Bulgaria’s annual rate of inflation in industrial producer prices in August accelerated again to 17.4 percent after slowing to 13.7 percent in July, almost approaching the peak of 17.5 percent recorded in May, according to a report by the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

The overall producer price index in industry in August 2026 was 17.4 percent above the level of August 2025, the National Statistical Institute announced today. Price growth was registered in the extractive industry – by 97.3 percent, in the production and distribution of electricity, heat and gas – by 13 percent, as well as in the processing industry – by 10.4 percent.

Higher prices in the manufacturing industry are observed in: production of basic metals – by 29.7 percent, repair and installation of machinery and equipment – by 11 percent, production of chemical products – by 10.6 percent. A decrease in prices was recorded in the production of machinery and equipment, general and special purpose – by 2 percent.

The overall producer price index increased by 3 percent in August 2026 compared to the previous month. Higher prices were observed in the extractive industry – by 10.2 percent, in the production and distribution of electricity, heat and gas – by 5.3 percent, and in the manufacturing industry – by 1.5 percent.

An increase in prices in the manufacturing industry was observed in the production of basic metals – by 4.4 percent, the production of beverages – by 1.8 percent, the production of chemical products – by 1.6 percent. A decrease was recorded in the production of tobacco products and in the production of computer equipment, electronic and optical products – by 0.4 percent each, in the production of rubber and plastic products and in the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers – by 0.3 percent each.
