Jerusalem, 27 January, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Two Israeli army reservists suspected of spying on behalf of Iran are under arrest, it was cleared for publication on Monday. The two are accused, among other things, of sending sensitive footage of an Iron Dome battery to an Iranian agent.

The suspects, identified as Yuri Eliaspov and Georgi Andreyev from Kiryat Shmona, were apprehended in early January.

According to the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) Eliaspov had been in contact with an Iranian official for several months, carrying out missions in exchange for financial compensation as an active-duty soldier. He continued when he became a reservist. Missions included spraying graffiti with messages such as “Children of Ruhollah,” a reference to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khoemeini, the spiritual leader of the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

Eliaspov later filmed and transferred to the Iranian agent classified footage of an Iron Dome battery, for which he received $3,500.

Yuri allegedly involved his friend Georgi in the espionage activities, encouraging him to establish contact with the Iranian operator. Georgi reportedly agreed and participated in graffiti campaigns and assisted Yuri by hanging signs around Tel Aviv as assigned by the Iranian

But Andreyev, a reservist who worked in the Defense Ministry’s Tel Aviv headquarters, got scared and stopped cooperating.

Authorities noted that both suspects were fully aware they were working with a hostile foreign entity. This conclusion was based on media reports they had encountered detailing similar incidents involving Israeli citizens recruited by Iranian intelligence through social media.
