AI-Powered Humanoid Robot Showcases Skills at Bulgarian University
Jerusalem, 21 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Ruse (BTA) – The humanoid robot RaiON visited the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev” today. The demonstration in the lobby of the Rectorate of the university allowed students and teachers to get acquainted with the possibilities of modern robotics and artificial intelligence.
The robotics team of the Water Sector Development Foundation (WSDF) demonstrated the main features of the robot, the principles of working with it and the application of intelligent technologies.
“Our goal is to show that the new technology is already in Bulgaria and can be worked with freely and purposefully,” commented Nikolay Zarov from the Bulgarian Federation of Radiological and Nuclear Research.
He added that when developing such systems, different situations and questions must be anticipated. A robot may have knowledge of complex scientific topics, but at the same time fail to adequately answer a simple question if it is not prepared for the relevant context. According to him, robots have the potential to be useful even in dangerous conditions for humans, where human presence is difficult or undesirable. However, this requires appropriate prior preparation and programming.
At the University of Ruse, the robot demonstrated the ability to dance, solve an equation with two unknowns, and answer questions, such as this one about its capabilities, for example.
“I serve as a robotic platform for training, experimentation, and demonstrations. I can demonstrate movements and interaction with safe tools, collect data with sensors. I am suitable for engineering and scientific experiments in a controlled environment, but I do not replace human judgment and do not perform dangerous tasks independently,” the robot said.
The event was organized by the University of Ruse in connection with the academic community’s interest in humanoid robots and the practical applications of artificial intelligence.
The Rector of the Higher School, Prof. Dr. Desislava Atanasova, and Academician Hristo Beloev – Honorary Rector and Chairman of the General Assembly of the University commented on the importance of new technologies for education and the need for young people to have the opportunity to touch them during their studies. Such initiatives can increase interest in engineering specialties and show students the real challenges and opportunities facing modern engineers.
