Albania Not in Talks to Accept Displaced Gazans, Prime Minister Says
Jerusalem, 28 January, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- (ATA) – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama rejected the claim of journalist and political analyst of the Israeli media “Channel 12”, Amit Segal, according to whom “the Trump administration is in negotiations with the Albanian government to accept 100,000 refugees from the Gaza Strip in Albania.”
In a reaction on social media, Rama assured that this is not true at all.
“I haven’t heard something so false in a long time – and there has been a lot of fake news lately! This is not true at all,” the Prime Minister said.
“But let me be clear: Albania has not been asked by anyone, and we cannot even think of taking on such a responsibility,” he underlined.
The Prime Minister noted that Albania recognized the state of Palestine a long time ago.
“We are proud of our strong friendships with Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and, of course, the Palestinian people, whose state Albania recognized long ago. But Albania is not located in the Middle East and, from the heart of Europe, we cannot do more than any other European country on such an issue. However, we wish and pray that the Palestinian people have the opportunity to live in their own state, as free people under a democratic regime, and that Hamas is no longer allowed to harm Israel – or, above all, the Palestinians themselves,” Rama said.
