Ali Ahmeti was re-elected leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) at the party congress late on Saturday.

“I thank you for the trust you have bestowed on me to lead DUI in the next four years. I will represent you with dignity and never embarrass you before the opponents,” said Ahmeti in his acceptance speech.

He referred to the enhancement of the status of ethnic Albanians since the 2001 Ohrid Framework Agreement and said they have always worked with the parties of ethnic Macedonians in a transparent way and by respecting their word.

“There are people who spread defeatism, fake news and disinformation, but DUI remains consistent. These are the values that we have built by ourselves through adversity and sacrifice. We are here today to strengthen DUI’s foundations for the next 20 years,” said Ahmeti.

On the coming tasks, he said focus should be given on education, health, rule of law, vetting of judiciary.

“Hard work lies ahead. We need to remain strong and stable regarding the observance of the Ohrid Agreement, Prespa Agreement and the Friendship Treaty, there is no going back. These are closed issues that ensure a safer future of North Macedonia,” added Ahmeti.

The DUI leader said Euro-Atlantic integration had no alternative and pledged for reconciliation in the region.

“I am certain of a victory at the April 12 elections. The country will win, the citizens will win,” noted Ahmeti.
