Azerbaijan Claims Nine Medals at European Youth and U-23 Weightlifting Championships

Jerusalem, 19 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – Azerbaijani athlete Rahila Huseynzadeh won two silver and one bronze medals at the U-23 and Youth European Championships held in Durres, Albania.

According to the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation (AAF) to AZERTAC , the athlete competing in the 86-kilogram weight category came second in the snatch, lifting 94 kilograms. Our representative won a bronze medal in the clean and jerk. This time, he showed a result of 115 kilograms. Thus, the athlete, who achieved a total of 209 kilograms in two movements, won the silver medal of the European Championship.

All three Azerbaijani athletes who went to the European Championship under the leadership of head coach Sardar Hasanov and senior coach Asif Mammadov finished the competition with medals. Fuad Hasanov and Gasim Ismayilov, who had previously competed on the platform, also won three medals each.

Azerbaijani athletes won a total of nine medals in the continental competition.
