Azerbaijan Establishes ‘Lev Landau Honorary Diploma’
Jerusalem, 9 March, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – The Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) established the “Lev Landau Honorary Diploma.”
AZERTAC was informed about this by ANAS.
ANAS President Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that Landau, who who was Jewish and died in 1968, was known for his fundamental research in the field of theoretical physics.
Born in Baku, Landau, is a personality of special value for the Azerbaijani scientific community, Habibbeyli said. Landau made revolutionary discoveries in the fields of quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, plasma physics and cosmology, and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1962.
His scientific school and theories had a great impact on the development of modern physics and were highly appreciated in the world’s leading scientific circles. The ANAS President emphasized that the scientist’s legacy is of great value for the Azerbaijani scientific and international scientific community.
