Azerbaijan Public Debt Totals $14.3 Billion, Remains Below Strategic Thresholds
Jerusalem, 28 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTACA) – As of April 1, 2026, the public debt of the Republic of Azerbaijan (domestic and external public debt) amounted to 24.4 billion manats ($14.3 billion), or 18.7 percent of the projected Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 130.8 billion manats ($76.9 billion) for 2026.
AZERTAC reports, citing the Ministry of Finance, that 7.9 billion manats ($4.6 billion), or 32.6 percent, of the total state debt is foreign state debt, and 16.4 billion manats ($9.6 billion), or 67.4 percent, is domestic state debt.
As of the reporting date, the upper limits set by the Strategy document for the management of public debt in Azerbaijan for the medium and long term (Strategy) were expected to be that the ratio of public debt to GDP should not exceed 30 percent and that external public debt should not exceed $10 billion.
