Azerbaijani Fruit and Vegetable Exports Reach Five-Year High
Jerusalem, 2 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – According to an analysis conducted by the Media Analysis Center (MTM) based on official data from the State Statistics Committee, fruit and vegetable exports in January-September 2025 amounted to 574.3 thousand tons.
The Media Analysis Center told AZERTAC that this indicator is 135 thousand tons or 30.8 percent more than the corresponding period in 2024 and is considered the highest result in the last five years.
The dynamics of previous years have been variable. In 2024, fruit and vegetable exports were recorded at 439.16 thousand tons, which is 23.45 thousand tons or 5.1 percent less than the result of 2023 (462.61 thousand tons).
2023, on the contrary, was remembered as a year of growth. Thus, exports, which were 413.78 thousand tons in 2022, increased by 48.83 thousand tons or 11.8 percent in 2023 to 462.61 thousand tons.
The export value of fruit and vegetable products in January-September of this year amounted to $602.5 million. This figure is $143.7 million or 31.3 percent more than the $458.8 million recorded in the same period of 2024 and is considered the highest result in the last five years.
Overall, revenue from fruit and vegetable exports increased every year except 2024. In 2024, the export value was $458.8 million, which is about $11.5 million, or 2.4 percent, less than the $470.3 million in 2023.
In 2023, an increase was observed compared to the previous year. Thus, the export value, which was $439.1 million in 2022, increased by $31.2 million or 7.1 percent in 2023 to $470.3 million.
An increase was also recorded in the 2021–2022 period. The export value, which was $398.9 million in 2021, increased by $40.2 million, or 10.1 percent, to $439.1 million in 2022.
As previously mentioned, the total volume of fruit and vegetable products exported from the country in January-September 2025 amounted to 574.3 thousand tons. The most exported product during this period was tomatoes. The volume of tomato exports amounted to 144 thousand tons, which is 25.1 percent of total fruit and vegetable exports.
In addition to tomatoes, other major crops also have a significant share in exports. Peach exports amounted to 88.1 thousand tons, which accounts for 15.3 percent of the total. Apple exports were recorded at 71.4 thousand tons, which accounts for 12.4 percent of total exports. Potato exports were 70.9 thousand tons, which accounts for 12.3 percent of total exports.
The remaining 199.8 thousand tons are various other types of fruits and vegetables, which is 34.8 percent of total exports.
Thus, tomatoes, peaches, apples, and potatoes together form approximately two-thirds of fruit and vegetable exports, with the remaining export volume being distributed among other product types.
The analysis revealed that the main export destination for fruit and vegetable products in January-September 2025 was Russia. During this period, 501.8 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables were exported from the country to Russia, which is approximately 87.4 percent of total exports. The total share of other countries was 72.5 thousand tons or 12.6 percent.
As can be seen from the table below, fruit and vegetable exports to the main buyer countries after Russia are relatively limited. The volume of products sent to these markets varies in the range of approximately 1–16.7 thousand tons, and the share of each country in the overall export structure is very small.
Analysis of data obtained from the official internet resources of the State Statistical Committees of the South Caucasus countries shows that in 2025, Azerbaijan had the highest indicator in fruit and vegetable exports among the countries of the region. In January-September, 574.3 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables were exported from Azerbaijan.
During the same period, Georgia’s exports amounted to 171.09 thousand tons, while Armenia’s exports amounted to 109.81 thousand tons (January-August).
In other words, Azerbaijan’s export volume exceeded Georgia’s by approximately 3.4 times and Armenia’s by 5.2 times.
This difference clearly shows that Azerbaijan is in a leading position in the South Caucasus in terms of fruit and vegetable production and export potential.
