Azerbaijani Swimmers Reach Podium for First Time at CIS Games

Jerusalem, 28 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Swimming competitions continue at the III CIS Games, hosted by Azerbaijan for the first time.

In the competitions held at the Ganja Sports Palace, Azerbaijani representative Suleyman Ismayilzadeh came second in the 1,500-meter freestyle, and Yegor Maynitsky came third in the 200-meter individual medley.

“Azerbaijani swimmers won medals for the first time in the history of the CIS Games. I congratulate the children. Although our opponents were strong, we fought well and took a place on the podium,” Ismayilzadeh said.

Previously, Mehri Abdurrahmanli came third in the 100-meter butterfly.

Azerbaijan’s other representative, Anastasia Gnussina, failed to make it to the medal table, finishing fourth in the 800-meter freestyle.
