Bulgaria and Israel to Cooperate in AI, Deep Tech Innovation, Cyber Security

Bulgaria’s caretaker Economy and Innovation Minister Alexander Pulev met with Israel’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Ofir Akunis in Jerusalem on Wednesday to discuss cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, and deep tech innovation.

The two ministers also discussed the signing of a memorandum on protection of investment and support of initiatives for innovation, space technologies, and AI. The document would affirm the bilateral economic ties.

Akunis expressed the wish to strengthen the cooperation with Bulgaria in the field of science and in student exchange.

Pulev acquainted his counterpart with INSAIT, the first of its kind Institute for Computer Science, AI and Technology in Eastern Europe.

Pulev noted that Bulgaria can become a regional hub for the flow of digital information from Asia, the country being key for its transfer.

Pulev aded Bulgaria and the US government have signed a declaration aimed at improving the quality of Bulgaria’s digital infrastructure with a focus on cyber security.

“At the state level there, we have rallied around a common key position on 5G security,” he added. Bulgaria needs a reliable strategic partner to support the initiative for forthcoming development of the cable data transfer system in the Black Sea, Pulev noted.
