Bulgaria Denies Exploding Hezbollah Pagers Passed Through Its Territory
Jerusalem, 19 September, 2024 (TPS) -- Bulgaria’s State Agency for National Security (SANS) said on Thursday that customs operations with pagers were not carried out in Bulgaria. The comment was in regard to media reports claiming that a company registered in Bulgaria had delivered pagers to Hezbollah which exploded in Lebanon and Syria.
SANS added that no customs operations were carried out with the foreign companies mentioned in the media reports.
SANS is carrying out joint inspections with the National Revenue Agency and the Interior Ministry regarding the complicity of a Bulgarian-registered company in the supply of communication equipment to Hezbollah.
Thousands of Hezbollah operatives were injured when their pagers and walkie-talkies blew up on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hezbollah said 32 of its people were killed, a number that has not been independently verified.
Around 60,000 residents of northern Israel were forced to evacuate their homes when Hezbollah began launching rockets and drones in October. Hezbollah leaders have said they will continue the attacks to prevent Israelis from returning to their homes. The attacks have so far killed 26 civilians and 20 soldiers on the Israeli side.
