Bulgaria to Host European, Balkan Cups in Whitewater Rafting in April
Jerusalem, 15 April, 2024 (TPS) -- Bulgaria will host the European and Balkan Cup in white water rafting and kayaking, which will take place in the Kresna Gorge on the Struma River from April 19 to 21. The events are part of the prestigious series of the International Rafting Federation (IRF), held annually in various rafting centers of Europe. The races are held in Bulgaria for the 8th time and are organized by the sports club “Adventure Network”.
“Struma is one of the most suitable rivers for rafting and kayaking both in Bulgaria and in the Balkans. It has various sections with different degrees of difficulty, which makes it suitable for both amateurs and experienced competitors. For years we have been developing the Kresna Gorge area and it is becoming an increasingly popular destination for rafting and kayaking,” said Emilia Peneva, founder of the Adventure Network sports club and member of the IRF board of directors.
The European and Balkan Cups in white water rafting and kayaking bring together teams from different countries, including Great Britain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Hungary, Slovakia Romania, Serbia, Greece and others. Before the races, from April 15, specialized courses for rafting and kayaking guides as well as for judges certified by the IRF will be held.
This year, the organizers expect to welcome dozens of water sports enthusiasts for the opening of the rafting season. Traditionally, this takes place on the spring-flowing Struma River in the Kresna Gorge, which has long become a favorite place for rafting and kayaking fans. The organizers continue to work actively on the promotion of extreme water sports in the country, and their ambition is the Kresna Gorge to become a European and world destination for rafting and kayaking adventures.
