Bulgarian Ambassador, Bat Yam Mayor Discuss Hosting Joint Events
Jerusalem, 12 February, 2024 (TPS) -- The Ambassador of Bulgaria in Israel , Slavena Gergova, met with Mayor Zvika Brot of Bat Yam, whose town has one of the country’s largest Bulgarian communities, the embassy announced on its Facebook page.
Ino Itzhak, head of the “Ehud Olei Bulgaria,” an organization of Bulgarian Jews, and Jackie Vidal of the “House of Bulgarian Jewish Heritage,” took part in the meeting.
Ambassador Gergova and Mayor Brot discussed the possibilities for joint holding of events and traditions of significance for the cultural heritage of the Bulgarian community in Israel, including the upcoming Baba Marta day on March 1.
The twinning of the city of Bat Yam with a Bulgarian city with similar characteristics was also discussed to develop effective cooperation between the two settlements in the fields of education, medicine and the environment.
As BTA reported, under the auspices of Mayor Brot, the “Bulgarian Soul of the Holy Land” festival is being held. The festival aims to preserve the cultural heritage of Bulgaria and Israel. This year, the event will be held online, as it has been in the past few years. Applications for participation in this year’s edition can be sent until April 7.
