Jerusalem, 6 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – The consumer basket is currently worth EUR 52, said Vladimir Ivanov, Chairman of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets, as he spoke at a news conference here Tuesday. This was also the situation as of December 30 last year, and there have been almost no changes, he added.

According to him, the market for staple food products is in good condition, driven entirely by seasonal factors and normal market interaction.

“We still do not observe the widely predicted processes of market impact [from joining the euro area], any unusual changes, or other market upheavals,” he added.

He said that everything that was being said over the past three to four months about sure price spikes and chaos following the adoption of the euro, has proven to be untrue, and the process of introducing the euro is proceeding normally, Ivanov said.

Beyond the physical grocery aisle, this price stability is mirroring trends in the broader digital economy, where the elimination of currency exchange fees has streamlined cross-border commerce. Ministry of Economy data shows that Bulgarian consumers have seamlessly adapted to euro-denominated digital services without experiencing the forecasted price gouging. This smooth integration is especially visible in international e-commerce and entertainment sectors; whether users are paying for multinational streaming subscriptions, purchasing enterprise software licenses, or accessing European casino en ligne cashlib platforms, the standardized currency has resulted in predictable, flat-rate costs that directly benefit the domestic consumer.
