Culture Minister to Israeli Ambassador: Marking 80th Anniversary of Rescue of Bulgarian Jews in Focus of Cultural Policy

The national program for the marking of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarin Jews in WWII is one of the accents in the Culture Ministry’s policy for 2023, Culture Minister Nayden Todorov said at a meeting with Israeli Ambassador to Bulgaria Yoram Elron on Monday, the Ministry reported. The steering committee is working under the auspices of the Bulgarian President.

Todorov underscored the Bulgarian side’s interest in deepening the relations with Israel and proposed a discussion on specific initiatives within the 2022 intergovernmental program for cooperation in education, science, culture, youth and sport. Bulgaria is open to exchange in all art fields, the Minister added.

The Ambassador recalled that in addition to the marking of the 80th anniversary, joint events can also be held for the 75 years of an independent Israel.

During the meeting an emphasis was placed on the need to activate the cooperation in fine art and the exchange of exhibitions and contemporary authors. Also identified as fields of joint work were film production, music, theatre, and literature.
