Cybercriminals Exploiting Azerpost Name in Fraud Scheme

Jerusalem, 8 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – According to the observations of the Electronic Security Service (ESS) operating under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, in recent days, cybercriminals have been misusing the name and logo of “Azerpost” LLC — Azerbaijan’s national postal operator — to carry out a targeted fraud campaign against citizens.

AZERTAC reports, citing information released by the Electronic Security Service, that fraudsters provide citizens with false information about the payment of a certain amount of money via SMS, calls or fake e-mails.

For this purpose, they redirect them to suspicious and fake links. The links in question display fictitious statuses of the order, such as “payment pending”, “cash arriving”, “cash reserved” and “delivery confirmed”. Then, the user is presented with a “Receive payment” button. When the button is clicked, the user is requested to provide the card number, card expiration date, CVV/CVC code, and also a mobile number.

After entering the information, either the funds are directly withdrawn from the citizen’s bank account, or access to the bank’s mobile application is gained and the account is taken under full control.

“For your information, we would like to inform you that these types of messages are usually sent from foreign numbers. In most cases, the content of fake messages is not composed correctly, and the words do not have a logical connection with each other. Citizens should also check the authenticity of the “URL” of the link provided in the message,” the ESS said.

“The Electronic Security Service and “Azerpost” LLC urge citizens not to click on links in messages sent from unknown sources, and not to transfer bank card and other personal data to the other party through suspicious links,” the ESS added.
