Cyprus Wildfire Burned Over 120 Sq. Km, Early Satellite Data Shows
Jerusalem, 24 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- The estimated burnt area in Limassol district is approximately 124 square kilometres, according to a first rapid assessment of the catastrophic wildfire, carried out by the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence of the Cyprus University of Technology.
The estimation was based on low-resolution satellite imagery from Sentinel-3, acquired on 24 July 2025 at 07:30 (UTC). The spatial resolution of the image is 300 metres, and the estimated burned area is approximately 120 square kilometres.
This is a preliminary assessment, Eratosthenes Centre notes. An updated analysis using higher-resolution satellite data is expected in the coming days.
