Jerusalem, 20 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Prague (CTK) – Following a meeting with his Israeli counterpart on Wednesday, Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka told reporters he would like to move his country’s embassy to Jerusalem.

“It should also be at some symbolic moment. We have some work to do on this. I personally would like it to happen during my mandate, but today was about business, economic exchange,” he said at a joint press conference with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar at Prague’s Cernin Palace. Macinka stressed that the embassy move would be a cabinet decision.

Macinka and Saar jointly launched the Czech-Israeli business forum this morning. According to the ministers, more than 50 Israeli companies and about 150 representatives of the Czech Republic are participating. The companies are focused on defense, cybersecurity, and healthcare. Macinka hopes that the business forum will become a regular event held alternately in the Czech Republic and Israel.

He added that the Czech Republic will not accept any further trade sanctions from the European Union against Israel, even if it were the only one to block them. According to Macinka, the Czech Republic will not accept the freezing of the association agreement between the EU and Israel either.

Saar stated at the press conference that the governments of some European countries are damaging the EU’s relations with Israel, while the Czech Republic is its true friend.
