FM Dimitrov welcomes new methodology of negotiations after its release

Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov welcomes Wednesday the new methodology for negotiations to join the EU, saying he expects it to result in a win-win situation – opening of talks with Skopje and improved process.

“We welcome the effort of the European Commission to come up with proposals to improve the accession process. The new methodology gives a greater political dimension to the process, but also more dynamism, predictability and credibility. We believe that this revitalized approach will result in a win-win outcome in the coming weeks: opening of accession talks within a renewed process, he says in a statement.

Countries in the region have nothing to fear from the introduction of reversibility, Dimitrov notes.

“After all, the accession process existѕ to transform the realities on the ground for the better. Bigger benefits for reformers and stronger penalties for backsliders based on a credible objective assessment is a good development. It is high time to launch a healthy reform competition in our region,” the Minister says.
