Following 3,000 Missiles Launched Into Israel, 22 Israelis Dead

Jerusalem, 7 October, 2023 (TPS) -- At least 22 people were dead, and the number might go higher, after Hamas launched some 3,000 missiles into Israel on Saturday morning.

In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel is at war.

Also, 585 Israelis were reported to have been injured.

Among the dead is Ofir Liebstein, head of the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council, who died in an exchange of fire with terrorists.

Another Israeli – a woman in her 60s – died when a Hamas rocket struck her building in the Gederot Regional Council.

Also, an Israeli ambulance driver has been killed.

The names and identities of the other victims have not yet been released.

“The Hamas [terrorist organization] has made a grave mistake this morning and launched a war against the State of Israel. IDF troops are fighting against the enemy at every location,” said Defense Minister Yoav Gallant following a situation assessment. “The State of Israel will win this war.”

“Operational commanders are arriving to manage the combat in all areas,” added IDF Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Hagari. “Concurrently, we have initiated the call-up of reservists for various units within the IDF.”

Gallant has also authorized the call-up of reserve soldiers. He has additionally declared a “special security situation” in an 80 km radius from the Gaza Strip, authorizing the IDF to provide civilians with safety instructions within their home communities.
