Hellenistic Artifacts Unearthed in Bulgarian Schoolyard
Jerusalem, 18 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Nessebar (BTA) – Finds from the Hellenistic era were discovered during archaeological research in the yard of the “Lyuben Karavelov” Secondary School in Nessebar, the Municipality announced. The excavations were carried out by the team of the “Ancient Nessebar” Museum in connection with the construction of the school’s new academic building. Among the artifacts discovered in a stepped pit are a bronze wreath with gilding, a silver coin, a jug, strigils and astragals.
Other silver and bronze coins, relief-decorated cups, lacrimariae, strigils, glass beads and ceramic vessels were also found during the excavations. The team also examined four medieval structures from the 13th–14th centuries, as well as three pits from different periods. Some of the finds are fragmented and are awaiting restoration.
All artifacts will be stored in the funds of the Ancient Nessebar Museum, the municipal administration in Nessebar added.
