Iranian Missile Struck in Close Proximity to Tel Aviv Embassies

Public By Pesach Benson • 16 June, 2025

Jerusalem, 16 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- One Iranian missile struck Tel Aviv in close proximity to two foreign embassies and less than 500 meters from a significant foreign embassy on Monday morning.

Four people were killed and more than 100 injured in the Tel Aviv and Haifa metropolitan areas during the early morning barrage.

The deadliest impact occurred in Petah Tikva, where a building suffered a direct hit, killing three. “This is a large and complex scene with many casualties. We are in the scanning phase. The situation could change,” said Central District Commander Maj. Gen. Yair Hetzroni.

Magen David Adom emergency responders did not immediately provide details about the fourth fatality.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, approximately 40 missiles were launched in the latest barrage.

Additional strikes were reported in Tel Aviv and the Greater Haifa area. In Haifa, two people were injured in a direct hit, and initial contact was lost with three others before rescuers managed to reach them.

Meanwhile, rescue teams recovered two more bodies from the rubble of a building in Bat Yam hit the previous night, raising the total death toll from the ongoing missile attacks to nine. Search efforts are continuing for at least one person still missing under the debris.

Most countries do not recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and maintain their embassies in Tel Aviv. Several countries, mostly European, have consulates and lower-level trade missions in the Israeli capital. The US, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Papua New Guinea and Paraguay opened embassies in Jerusalem. The U.S. maintains an embassy branch in Tel Aviv.

Israel launched preemptive strikes against Iranian nuclear sites on Friday, citing intelligence that Tehran had reached “a point of no return” in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. According to Israeli defense officials, Iran has developed the capacity to rapidly enrich uranium and assemble nuclear bombs, with sufficient fissile material for up to 15 weapons.

Israeli intelligence also exposed a covert program to complete all components of a nuclear device. The strikes mark a dramatic escalation in what officials describe as a broader Iranian strategy combining nuclear development, missile proliferation, and proxy warfare aimed at Israel’s destruction.
